The Fisheries Development Board (FDB) is actively working to promote technology, develop infrastructure, and build capacity for modern aquaculture in Pakistan. The government has identified aquaculture as a high-growth sector with the potential to significantly boost exports while providing the local population with high-quality nutrition. Government of Pakistan has provided relief on duties for importing all kinds of machinery, equipment, capital goods, and materials necessary for setting up, modernizing, replacing, or expanding hatcheries, farms, feed mills, and seafood processing units. However, to ensure this benefit is exclusive to fisheries-related businesses, two conditions have been imposed:
1. Imports must be made by fish/shrimp hatcheries, farms, feed mills, and seafood processing units registered under the Sales Tax Act, 1990 and with the Fisheries Development Board or the concerned Ministry.
2. The Ministry of National Food Security and Research must certify that the imported goods are bona fide requirements. The Authorized Officer will provide all relevant information online to the Pakistan Customs Computerized System using a specific user ID and password obtained under Section 155D of the Customs Act, 1969.
